Lunches and Snacks
Lunches are prepared by our professional kitchen staff and served daily. Campers are seated in a relaxed atmosphere in our air-conditioned dining rooms. The menu is well-planned and offers campers a variety of meals and nutritional options. A copy of the menu is sent home and can be viewed on our website.
Campers are encouraged to eat the main meal of the day complimented with many daily items that include a variety of fresh raw veggies, salad with various toppings and dressings, fresh fruit, organic milk and yogurt, sesame-free hummus, fresh deli meats and cheeses, tuna, hard-boiled eggs, freshly baked white and whole wheat bagels, white and whole wheat bread, and Sunbutter, cream cheese, and jelly which are served daily. We are "nut free" and do not serve peanut butter, and there are no pork products.
Cookouts are planned weekly as a great change of pace. Campers love our Hillard burgers and Hillard dogs with all the trimmings, and all the other daily items are also available. Cookouts are held in a special location at our beautiful South Campus.
We also serve a healthy snack during the day, and afternoon refreshments are served daily before the campers leave for home.
Answers to frequently asked questions
Q. What can my child eat if he/she doesn't want the meal that is served?
We serve many alternatives daily: fresh white or whole wheat bagels with or without cream cheese, sunbutter sandwiches, choice of white or whole wheat bread with jelly, butter, turkey, turkey ham, bologna, salami, tuna, American and Swiss cheese. We also offer organic yogurt, hardboiled eggs, and sesame-free hummus. Salad, fresh fruit and cut-up vegetables are available daily.
Q. Does someone make sure that my child eats?
Yes, your child's counselors eat with him/her and are expected to make sure that every camper eats lunch. Additionally, our Divisional Head Counselors and Senior Tribe Leaders are in the dining rooms to assist with any food related concern. We often hear parents say that their child is famished at the end of the day. We expect this! The kids have a very active day at Camp; however, we assure you that we do make sure our campers eat!
Q. It's a long day. Are snacks served at Camp?
Yes. Campers receive a mid-day snack and "refreshments" at the end of the day. The mid-day snack rotates between such items as fresh fruit, cheese, crackers and packaged snacks with high quality ingredients. Afternoon refreshments are either ice cream or an ice pop.
Q. How often are fruits and vegetables served?
Fruits and vegetables are served every day with lunch. We rotate our fruits and vegetables, but try to choose ones that we know the kids will eat such as watermelon, grapes, oranges, apples, carrots, celery, and cucumbers.
Q. What is served at the weekly cookout?
Weekly cookouts are scheduled by tribe and are indicated on the group schedules. Campers have the choice of hot dogs or hamburgers every week during cookout. The meal also includes fresh raw vegetables like carrots and celery, some type of chips, lemonade, apple juice, or water to drink, and watermelon for dessert. The other items noted above are also available at cookout, as well as veggie burgers.
Q. What beverages are served?
Low-fat organic milk and water are served with lunch every day in the dining room. Organic skim milk is also available. Cookouts offer a variety of other options as mentioned above. We encourage campers to drink a lot of water throughout the day!
Q. Do you serve gluten-free foods?
Yes. We have a gluten-free pantry which includes gluten-free snacks and breads. Gluten-free pasta, pizza and chicken nuggets/tenders are available when those items are on the menu.
Please note: If your child has a food allergy, please make sure you have completed a Food Allergy Form and spoken to Camp regarding the procedures required to ensure a safe eating plan for your child.
